I haven't really been in the mood to blog lately. I'm spending less time on the computer and more time writing letters, playing with my son, working on new sticker designs, cooking, cleaning, doing simple things, having a simple life. I like that!
Today is Halloween but I'm not as excited as I thought I'd be. I'm happy though because Louis-Justin IS excited, so that's nice. We went grocery shopping this morning (with my lovely cherry grocery list of course) and my little guy was so glad to wear his Thomas the Tank Engine costume! I suspect that he likes the costumes more than the candy on Halloween.
I don't have photos of Louis-Justin, but this is exactly what his costume looks like. Except that we lost the hat last year, oops...
I'm not a big fan of scary/horror movies and I don't like gore (I rented "Steel Trap" recently and thought it was a joke)...
Nonetheless, I went to the cinema to see "Saw VI" with my boyfriend a few days ago. I've loved Jigsaw ever since the first "Saw" came out, but this latest installement didn't impress me. Probably because I don't like Hoffman and because the ending didn't surprise me. Well, there was one thing that did surprise me, but not at the very end. I thought all the other endings were more powerful than this one. Oh well! I still enjoyed the movie, but not as much as the previous installments. Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?
I still have some cooking to do before we go trick-or-treating, so I wish you all a Happy (and safe) Halloween!

Penpal of the Week #20
Everyone, meet Rebecca from Germany!
1. Please tell us about you!
Hello all! My name is Rebecca, I am 27 (soon 28) years old and live in Germany, near Hannover. Live here with my boyfriend and our two guinea pigs in a flat with garden. My bf and I are a couple since 1998, a looong time and I am so happy to have him by my side!
My parents and their dog Pépe live near to me... Also my younger sister Johanna.
I work as an kindergartenteacher in a kindergarten. In "my" group are 25 children between three and six and no day is like the other. I think we have lots of fun together, but sometimes the work can be really hard... Not only some kids are strange... Some parents, too ;-) But it's the job I want to do!
In my free time I love reading. I am a big bookworm and read always when I have time! Read all kinds of books, but my fave ones are thriller and dark fantasy!
Music is important too. I like listening to her, love to visit concerts and I sing in a choir!
Also I love penpalling, meeting friends, baking/cooking, a bit sports, movies/cinema, surfing in the Internet, boardgames, eating out...
2. Describe your personality in 10 words!
Ok, me in 10 words... I give my best...
First of all I am authentic! I am always there for the people who need me! I am honest! I can't lie, I am in my feelings like an open book. Good friends can often see how I feel. That's sometimes good... Sometimes not really *lol*
Also I think I am a good listener, am openminded and I am an optimistic person... Most of the time!
On the other side I can be very stubborn, a bit bossy and too afraid sometimes! Also I make me too many thoughts about everything!
3. How long have you been penpalling? How did you first start? Tell us about your first penpal!
I started penpalling when I was 13/14 years old. I was a big Kelly Family Fan at this time and I was searching for other fans. And since that I always wrote letters. But I haven't a penpal from this time. Most of these girls stopped writing, when their fantime was over! It's a pity!
4. How many penpals do you have now and where are they from?
Now I have 19 penpals from all over the world. Some come from Germany and the rest from the whole world! And I am really happy to have them near me in my life! My oldest penpal I have since 1998 and the newest one from September this year :-)
5. What are your favorite topics to discuss in letters?
Oh I think about anything and everything what is important in life. My penpals can talk about everything with me and I do the same! I am an open person and very talkative! So we can write about funny things, sad things, about family and friends, pets, books, movies, music, hobbies... All things that come to mind!
6. What are you looking for in a penpal?
I am looking for a good and true friend, hopefully for the whole life! I don't like penpals who write only one or two letters and then stop! That isn't a penpal for me! I mean, sometimes it can be that you are not the right person, but then you can write a short message and explain the thing! So no one must wait for letters that never come! And it's fair I think!
Also for me it's very important to write regularly, hopefully one time per month. Cause I think only when you write regularly you can build a friendship... Not when you only get three letters in a year! Sometimes it can be that you haven't the time for letters, but then you can write a short email, postcard... That the other person knows that you are thinking of her!
Medium to long letters are wonderful... (No short ones... so then you can write postcards :-), with questions and where I can see that the other is interested in me!
Oh and I love it to send little things from time to time... Teabags, chocolate, stickersheets, sweets... It's great to make a joy :-)
7. What do you like the most about penpalling?
Huuuu, when you go to the letterbox and there is a letter for YOU! That is a fantastic thing and it really makes my day! It's wonderful, when you know someone takes the time for YOU and writes you a letter!
8. In what language(s) do you correspond?
I can write in German and in English. My English isn't so good, but I always give my best! And I think with every letter I read and every letter I write I learn more! I think my English letters are not so long like my German ones, cause sometimes I am not sure how I can tell things! But I try it hard!
9. What are some of your habits in regards to letter writing?
Most of my letters I write at my desk, but also when I sit on the couch in our living room!
I love it to use stickers or stamps, colourful pens, I like to decorate the envelopes, too!
Usually I need one or two weeks to reply my letters... Seldom longer!
Oh and I always handwrite letters, cause I really like it.
10. Has anything strange/funny ever happened to you since you've been penpalling?
Mhmm, yes :-) I met my boyfriend through penpalling! I searched for a penpal, he wrote me and after some time we met and fell in love... And we are still happy together :-)
But strange things... Not in the last time!
11. Have you met any of your penpals?
Yes, in May I met a penpal from Germany and I must say that we had a great time together! We talked about everything!
I never met a penpal from another country... But I hope one day!
12. Are you currently looking for more penpals?
Not necessarily, BUT when you think we can "click" and have a good feeling with us I am really happy about a message from you. :-)
Feel free to email me (littleweeny_bee@yahoo.de) or write me a message on my Interpal-profile.
Can't wait to hear from you!
Thank you, Rebecca!
If anyone is interested in being Penpal of the Week, as usual, just let me know! :)

Penpal of the Week #19
Today, I want you all to meet a very special person that I love very much: Ashley from the USA!
1. Please tell us about you!
I know this is going to sound silly, but ahhh! I'm so nervous to do this interview!! I hope I do a good job... And thank you JULIE, for allowing me to be Penpal of the Week! I'm so excited!
Hey hey! My name is Ashley or Ash, whichever you prefer! I'll be turning 27 in December. I grew up in a small city in Wisconsin (USA). My parents still live there. When I was 19, I moved to a city about 25 minutes away. Family is something that is incredibly important to me, so I couldn't ever imagine moving very far away.
I'm very happily married. My husband and I met in 2002 — after he swept me off the dance floor one cold April night. We said our "I do's" in November of 2005, and it's been happily ever after ever since. (Yes, I do believe in happily ever afters!) He's my absolute best friend and always (always!) knows how to make me laugh.
I'm a very proud mama to two adorable little boys. I'm fortunate enough to be able to stay home with them. I honestly couldn't imagine doing anything else. My days are always filled with so many little adventures - whether it be scribbling in coloring books, dancing to silly songs, playing trains, or battling in a game of Frog Soccer. Being a mama has taught me so much about myself, and so much about life. I take a lot of pride in raising my boys to be kind and courteous to others, as well as the earth. When we go for our daily walks, we often bring a bag with us, to pick up liter that other people have left behind. As my boys get older, I plan on involving them in weekly community projects - like making cards for the elderly, walking dogs at the Humane Society, etc, etc. It's very important to show empathy towards others...
A few random facts about me... I'm a born again Christian (since 2006), and my faith is something that is very important to me. I'm a Capricorn / Christmas Eve babe... although I really don't know much about astrology. I'm a leftie. I'm a vegetarian. I love thrift stores. I used to be super duper creative... hehe, I lost a bit of that after I became a mom, but it's slowly coming back to me! I love playing board games and we seriously have the greatest collection of games EVER. I just wish we had people to play them with. Hehe.
My favorite quote used to be "Follow your heart". Over the course of the last few years, I've realized that it's much more important to lead your heart... because if you're not leading it, that means someone (or something) else is. I truly enjoy the simple things in life - splashing in muddy puddles, stopping to smell the roses, the beauty in the first snowfall... Those are the things that matter the most.
2. Describe your personality in 10 words!
Let's see, ten words... I'm honest. I know that sounds vague, but I really value honesty. My mom taught me the true importance of that.
I'm supportive. I'm that shoulder people know they can go to when they really need someone. I'm the type of person who will always be there.
I'm somewhat reserved. I don't really have any friends nearby (haha, I guess the word friendless could have worked as well... bad joke, I know). I'd rather have one genuine friendship rather than 10 friendships that are superficial.
I'm content with my life and who I am.
I'm stubborn. What I mean by stubborn is - it takes a lot to get me to open up sometimes (of course, I'm not referring to letters! I'm an open book when it comes to those! Hehe).
I'm patient.
I'm messy although I've made progress with becoming more organized. (My organizational skills have been a work in progress for a few years now. Hah.)
I'm easy going. I don't hold grudges - ever! I know that might sound impossible, but it's true. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to forgive someone.
I'm thankful for my life - the people in it, the relationships I have, and the lessons I've learned.
I'm determined to help my boys develop a strong foundation, so that when they are faced with life's difficulties, they will be able to stand strong on that foundation.
3. How long have you been penpalling? How did you first start? Tell us about your first penpal!
I've been penpalling for a long time... My first penpal would have to be my mom. Haha. I used to write letters to the Easter Bunny / Santa and they always wrote back to me... Ah, if I only knew at the time... I was actually writing to my mom! Hehe.
I got my first "real" penpal when I was in 5th grade. I sent a letter addressed to "Any Student, Any School, Salt Lake City, Utah", and a boy wrote back! Yep yep, so my first penpal was a boy. I remember being so embarrassed. I tried saying he was a girl, but my parents were smart enough to know that "Rick" wasn't exactly a girl's name. Rick and I kept in touch for quite a few years...
Later, my mom told me about a magazine called "Tiger Beat". It was through that magazine that I met one of my best friends! My grandma took me to meet her when I was in 8th grade. We've been writing for 14 years now!
4. How many penpals do you have now and where are they from?
Right now I have a really great group of penpals. I had very difficult pregnancies, and was unable to write letters while I was pregnant...
Right now, the majority of my penpals are from overseas - mostly Europe, but also South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand... Most of them are "newer" penpals, that I found on Interpals. I'm quite excited about the friendships I've started to build with them already.
It's amazing how you can feel "instantly connected" with someone, simply from pen and paper. I recently became friends with someone on Interpals, and we've exchanged many messages... I also received a wonderful letter from her. I'm amazed at how ALIKE we are.
I have a penpal here in the States who calls me frequently, and I think that says a lot about the friendship we built through exchanging letters the past couple of years. Another friend is always sending wonderful care packages to my boys, which I find to be incredibly kind and thoughtful! There are certain people you meet in life that make you feel like your friendship was simply meant to be!
I look forward to hopefully building life long friendships with all of my penpals... Cheers to all of my friends!! I love you!!
5. What are your favorite topics to discuss in letters?
When it comes to letters, I'm an open book. I love to talk about anything and everything... Where you've been in life, and where you plan on going in the future... Your hopes, dreams... troubles and joys. Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone story is worth hearing.
6. What are you looking for in a penpal?
When it comes to penpalling, I like long, chatty letters. I don't want that to scare anyone away... As long as there is a sincere effort with the letter - that's what matters most!
I find it hard to write to people who don't ask (me) any questions. I tend to ask a lot of questions in my letters, and it's nice to receive the same in return. It makes me feel like you really care!
I like letters that have depth... Paragraphs that consist of just a few sentences often don't tell enough, and leave me wanting a little more.
As I stated above - I've been writing letters for many years. I used to just write to anyone - regardless of the connection I felt with them... Now, I'm a little more serious about who I write to... I like to feel a real connection with you, and I hope that you feel the same with me...
Also, I like to write to people that I hear from frequently. I don't expect anyone to write back the day they receive my letter (although that would be super awesome!)... But within a few days, or a week would be ideal... I don't like getting letters 3 times a year. It's difficult to build a friendship that way.
7. What do you like the most about penpalling?
My favorite thing about penpalling is, of course, the friendships that I've been fortunate enough to make... simply from pen & paper. My penpals are my true friends. We write to each other about anything and everything, and I truly care about them... and know they care about me as well. I can definitely say that I've met a few of my best friends through writing letters!
8. In what language(s) do you correspond?
I only correspond in English. I studied French in high school, but it's been 9 years since I graduated, so... I don't really remember much!
9. What are some of your habits in regards to letter writing?
I write my letters all over... My absolute favorite place to write is at a park. I love watching my son play, while I sit on a blanket and write. I also write letters on my couch, kitchen table, desk... On the floor in my son's room... Pretty much anywhere!
I have a nice collection of stationary (thanks to Janetstore.com). I LOVE stationary, glitter, stickers, etc.
I used to be able to write back to letters the day I received a letter. In fact, I almost always did that... Since I became a mom, writing back the day I receive a letter has become a little more difficult. I get mad at myself sometimes, because I'm not able to write back as soon as I used to. Sometimes I am still able to reply the day I get a letter... But other times it might take me a week or so. I know it's nice to get fast replies, and I do my best to reply as soon as I can.
10. Has anything strange/funny ever happened to you since you've been penpalling?
Hm... I've been thinking about the answer to this question all day! I'm SURE some strange things have happened to me, but I can't think of any...
One time, I received a letter from a very close friend of mine. In the letter, she told me that her boyfriend killed someone. I remember feeling frozen in that moment. I sent her many letters after that, and even tried to reach her by phone, but I never heard from her again. The last time I heard from her was 11 years ago. It's strange, but I still miss her. I hope that she's okay.
11. Have you met any of your penpals?
I have! As I mentioned above, my grandma took me to meet my friend in Michigan. My parents took me to meet a friend in Minnesota... I've met my fellow Wisconsin chicas... Although most prefer to stay in touch via the Internet now...
2005 was a lucky year for me, because I met Sherri (from Ohio) and Lora (from Minnesota)... I was able to find a picture of Sherri and me - I had to use my camera to take a picture of it, because my scanner is no longer hooked up. Sorry for the bad quality!
12. Are you currently looking for more penpals?
Yesiree! However, September was a busy month for me (two weddings, a dedication and a surprise birthday party) so I fell a bit behind. I hate being behind - it makes me feel like a bad friend. My life is usually NEVER very busy. Anyway!! I don't have many penpals from the USA / Canada / Mexico so if you would like to write to me, please send me a message. I have a decent amount of foreign pals right now, but if you feel like we'd be good friends, please send me a message and let me know. I'd love to hear from anyone! Females only!!! I'm pretty flexible with age, but the majority of my friends are between 23 and 36. Also, I don't do "email" penpalling.
If you would like to contact me, my contact information is raefabulous (at) gmail (dot) com OR feel free to view my Interpals page.
Thank you, Julie, for taking time to share my interview!
Well thank YOU, Ashley, for taking time to answer my questions! :)
People who are interested in being featured on my blog as Penpal of the Week can reply to this post and leave me their email address!
Thanks,
Julie xox

Here is a picture of the local post office. I usually don't mail letters from the post office, but this is where I get my stamps!
My handwriting... Although it tends to change on a daily basis! Hehe. As you can see, I love colorful things!
In 2005, my penpal from Ohio came to visit me. We had such a good time! (Me, left... My penpal, right.)

The lucky winners!
So, are you excited to know if you've won?! 31 people participated and I decided to pick 2 winners. 67 comments were posted.
Earlier tonight, I was on the phone with my boyfriend and he told me that he wanted to pick the first winner! :) I asked him to pick a number between 1 and 67. He chose 32, so the first winner is Bianca from Australia!
Congratulations, Bianca! You win The Woman In Black Letter Set!
Then, Mario told me that he also wanted to pick the second winner, but I wanted to ask Louis-Justin. Believe it or not, they both picked the same number anyway! And then, just out of curiosity, I used an online number generator and the same number was picked for the third time in a row: 67! So Aestraea, you were really meant to win!
Congrats, you win the Swirly Ivy Mini Letter Set!
Thanks to everyone who participated! Stay tuned for the next giveaway!

Penpal of the Week #18
This time, meet our first Penpal of the Week from Australia: Caitlin!
1. Please tell us about you!
Hey everyone, officially I’m Caitlin but I prefer Cate, just never call me Catie.
I was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, a state in funnily enough Australia. Apparently someone wasn’t very original with their names or really liked their cardinal directions since we also have Western Australia and Adelaide’s CBD is bordered by North, South, East and West terraces.
I still live in the same house that I was born in, that was in 1990 by the way. I’m an only child so it’s just me and my parents, and our dog and two cats.
I’m half way through a BA in Behavioural Science, so I’m majoring in psychology and also sociology. So if you’re interested in random psychological info or discussions about social life then I’m the penpal for you.
At the moment I’m looking for a new job but apparently it’s a bad time to be looking. Luckily I still have my old job at KFC (can you see why I want a new one?) even though they hardly give me any hours.
I used to study French and I’m hoping to take it up again at the start of next year because I would love to be fluent in another language. I’m also a writer, I’m not published or anything, at least not yet (that’s my dream).
When I’m not doing uni work or replying to penpals, then I can mostly be found writing or Tweeting (twitter.com/valamagic for anyone wondering). Otherwise I’ll be reading, watching movies, cuddling with one of my pets or hanging out with my friends who I love to death.
2. Describe your personality in 10 words!
Only ten words huh? Then again ten words can be a lot.
How about we start with creative, I think that’s pretty self-explanatory since I like to write.
Introverted, I can talk a lot if I’m online but in real life then I can be fairly introverted and quiet.
My other bad trait is procrastination, it can take me hours to do something as simple as write an email or I can get it done in five minutes.
I’m loyal to people I care about but sometimes I seem distant to people I don’t care about or know. I think it’s because I’m always thinking, I have lots of deep thoughts, does that make me sort of philosophical?
I can be innocent and childlike in some ways, I love watching Disney movies and playing board games. Then other times I can be completely adult with the crudest sense of humour of anyone I know.
Wow, this is getting hard. I’m a realist but some people see it as pessimism.
Oh, I think my friends would all be surprised if I didn’t mention that I’m incredibly indecisive. One of my friends and I took almost an hour to decide where to go for lunch because there were so many cafes to pick from where we were :)
3. How long have you been penpalling? How did you first start? Tell us about your first penpal!
To be honest I only started penpalling this year. It was something I always wanted to do and I tried to find someone when I was younger but it didn’t really work out. I think my first penpal was just someone I found on LiveJournal. We’re still in touch though, I think, it’s been a while since I heard from her.
4. How many penpals do you have now and where are they from?
I guess between 10 and 15. I have a few who live in Australia, and a couple from England and the USA, also one from Canada. Plus there’s a few people that I’m only in touch with via email at the moment because of postage costs, so that’s a couple more people in Canada and the USA, also a girl from the Netherlands and another from France.
5. What are your favorite topics to discuss in letters?
I can’t say I’ll talk about anything because I’m not a huge politics person but I’ll talk about most things. It’s always good to know what’s going on in my penpal’s life. But I also like to know some of the deeper stuff like what they’re thinking about.
Books and movies are good to talk about too, TV shows, music, stuff like that. It’s good to try out some of the things that my penpals like but I’ve never heard of or never seen/heard/read. I like being introduced to new things.
6. What are you looking for in a penpal?
Someone who’s happy to talk about everything and doesn’t lie/keep secrets. I don’t expect people to open up straight away and tell me their entire life story but it would be nice to at some point trust each other enough to say those types of things.
7. What do you like the most about penpalling?
I like that I can be myself and not worry about being judged for what I like or don’t like and also what I’m feelin. Sometimes I find it easier to be completely honest in letters. It’s nice to know that there’s somebody who truly knows you somewhere in the world.
8. In what language(s) do you correspond?
English. It’s the only language I can speak. Hopefully I’ll be able to do French and then write some basic stuff in French to people. That said, I’m pretty good at guessing the translation for French stuff.
9. What are some of your habits in regards to letter writing?
I love to write letters on my bed curled up with my cat Lester, so if you ever get pawprints on a letter then it’s his fault. I like to decorate a lot with stickers and things, and use coloured paper or pens to write them.
If it’s during the uni term then sometimes I write outside at uni between lectures, there’s a nice lake at my uni.
I usually try to reply within a couple of days and I almost always handwrite letters, though on occasion if time is really short then I type, but I always make up for it in length on those occasions. If I’m really busy then it might take me a little longer to write back.
10. Has anything strange/funny ever happened to you since you've been penpalling?
I guess the only weird thing is that I keep finding penpals who are twins. Seriously. At the moment there’s 3 of them. I didn’t think there were that many twins in the world.
11. Have you met any of your penpals?
No, I wish I had. But I haven’t had a chance to meet any yet. I really want to go and meet all of them one day but first off I need to save enough money to travel which is why I really need a new job! Maybe I’ll be able to meet the ones in Australia soon.
12. Are you currently looking for more penpals?
Not particularly but if there’s anyone who really thinks we’d be perfect for each other then feel free to drop me an email (playground_princess_@hotmail.com). Or you can just say hi on Interpals. Oh, if you’re from Ireland that would be pretty cool since I’m part Irish, or from Sweden or Germany.
Thank you, Cate!
I need more people who would like to be featured as Penpal of the Week on my blog, so please get in touch with me if you're interested! You can either email me directly (my email address is on my profile) or reply to this post with your email address and I'll contact you!

A couple of years ago at our school retreat, they painted out virtues on our faces... school is weird.

Disney
Tomorrow, my aunt Lise (I only have one aunt) is taking Louis-Justin and I to see Disney on Ice! It should be fun.
My little guy especially loves Toy Story and Nemo, but he recently discovered Mickey and his friends, so he's very excited about the show!
Since I'll spend most of the day outside the house tomorrow, the Penpal of the Week interview might be published later today on my blog.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends! Is anyone celebrating?
